Alison Andrews, CEO, Vigilant, Inc.

Alison Andrews is CEO of Vigilant, a privately held security services firm headquartered in the NY metropolitan area. Since joining the company in 2005, she has led Vigilant through innovations in managed security services, the development of proprietary tools that enable transaction-focused security monitoring, and the introduction of aggregated threat intelligence services, all of which have contributed to Vigilant's compounded annual growth rate of  93% during her tenure.

She brought to Vigilant over a decade of experience building service delivery teams, developing enterprise software, and formulating security management solutions from the vantage point of business intelligence and SIEM technologies. She was formerly VP of professional services for e-Security (later acquired by Novell), with a track record of 54% annual growth.  She led professional services and partner management at eGrail, and helped restructure the company for its acquisition by FileNet Corporation in 2002. As VP of global education services at MicroStrategy, she held P&L responsibility for a $15M global business unit operating in 10 countries, achieving six consecutive years of growth an average profit margin of 35%. Ms. Andrews holds a BA in Engineering Sciences from Dartmouth College.

IDA Science and Technology Policy Institute Fellowship - Deadline: January 24th

About the Program This two-year fellowship is designed to provide a unique opportunity for recent bachelor’s degree recipients to gain experience in addressing diverse challenges related to science and engineering research in such areas as energy and the environment, education, information and communication technologies, innovation and competitiveness, national security, and international cooperation. Fellows will be involved in collaborative research for leaders in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) in the Executive Office of the President and for such federal agencies as the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation.

What to Expect: Fellows work with a team of researchers on a wide variety of science and technology policy-analysis projects. Over the course of the two-year fellowship, experiences will include professional development through:

  • Participation in analyses in support of tasking from federal policy makers
  • Interaction with OSTP and federal science agency personnel
  • Training on specific analytical methods and tools
  • Mentorship from members of the research staff
  • Involvement in workshops and discussion on relevant topics

Who Should Apply? Applicants must have a bachelor's degree by September 2012 and be U.S. citizens to apply. Competitive candidates will have strong academic records in life sciences, physical sciences, engineering, statistics, computer science, mathematical sciences, or the social and behavioral sciences. Candidates should have an interest in science and technology policy; however, previous policy experience or education is not required. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential. Ideal candidates are innovative, analytical self-starters who are able to work collaboratively in teams. Candidates must complete a security investigation and meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
